Chemical Wash & Test
For All Types of Catalyst

Chemical Washing Service

Acidic & Basic wash steps remove most organic and inorganic compounds (catalyst deactivation).
Thermal regeneration removes remaining organic contaminants & sulfurs.
Wash process uses low pressure system so not to affect precious metals.
Wash report indicated activity of catalyst after washing (Customer will know if washed catalyst requires replacement before installing in engine).
Complete material analysis (ICP-AES / PIXE) available upon request.

  • Accumulation of dirt and debris on the catalyst.
  • Blocks airflow through the cells or diffusion into pores
  • Changes the effective GHSV
  • Flow continues through the open cells
  • Increased velocity through cells increases GHSV decreasing performance
  • Does not cause permanent damage to the catalyst

PRECISION CATALYST TEST REACTOR

  • Uses combustion engine to simulate exhaust flow across catalyst
  • No cores or material must be removed to complete testing
  • Simulates “in-field” operational conditions
  • CO & NOx destruction determined

LIMITATIONS OF THE WASH PROCESS

  • Will not remove Heavy metals – Lead, iron, tin, etc Catalyst poisons – Phosphorous, arsenic
  • Will not restore a catalyst that has experienced high temperature excursions.
  • High temperatures cause irreversible changes to the structure of the washcoat
  • If the coating has been fractured due to backfires and other pressure events, it may strip sections of coating off the substrate during cleaning.
